In your case you're coming from YNAB4 so you already have a killer tool. Really the question to ask isn't so much "is it expensive?" Instead, the better question is "does this save me more money than it costs?" I think the overwhelming response to that question would be "Yes" for all but the most fringe cases. YNAB could even add such a category to the "default" template for a new budget then discuss it in the little wizard that walks a person through a new budget. Not only does this allow them enough time to save the larger amount, it also serves as a perfect example of how saving for something works in YNAB.

From there they can switch to budgeting $7/mo and they are set for the following year. Somebody new can come in and budget $21/mo during those 4 months, then they have the money set aside for the payment at the end of the trial.

The 4 month trial being offered really goes a long way towards fixing that problem. Many people seeking out a killer budget solution like YNAB are in pretty dire straits at the time, and while finding $10-$20 within 30 days is fairly easy to do, finding 4x-8x that is just not feasible. My biggest gripe for new users is being expected to have that $85 within one month of starting YNAB since they don't have a monthly option. In that case affording YNAB is not going to be their biggest concern, and there are other tools out there that can help them, even though they aren't quite up to YNAB's utility. Nearly everyone can find room for that in their budget, but of course there will be some that are so tight that they can't. We're talking less than 1 combo meal at McDonald's per month. When using it properly, I'd say the vast majority of people find ways to save far more than that every month by sticking to their budget and locating areas of expense where they can cut back. $83.99 seems like a lot, but when you break it down it's $7/mo.
